I can’t quite say this is the one I’ve been waiting for —that’s Halo 3—but Halo 2 joined the Master Chief Collection on PC Tuesday night, and it’s an ideal place to start really devoting time to Halo’s online multiplayer. It’s still fun, but not a game I’d dump hours of time into. Halo 2, even after 15 years, feels just deep enough. It’s still the kind of multiplayer game that can demands precision aiming, tight teamwork, and intricate map knowledge to master. This is the moment on PC many Halo fans have been waiting for and after a few hours of testing I can say that if you plan to jump in now, be prepared to run into some bugs. As I wrote in my feature on Industries’ journey to bring the Halo series back to PC , there are some significant features still absent from the Master Chief Collection. Alternate keybinds are coming in a future update, and the developers are continuing to work on issues around screen tearing, which I ran into while testing Halo 2’s campaign. Halo Reach’s audio issues remain, and are taking a long time to fix. Halo 2 doesn’t exhibit identical problems, though its audio isn’t perfect, either.

Xbox Matchmaking services would find you a match but the notification might get lost on the way to the system and then the game title itself would never see it. Under the old model the system software was the authority on who was connected to who and how This gives the title and us a lot more control over party management. So basically, it used to be that MCC relied on your Xbox One’s software to decide who and how you connected to other players.

Even at launch it was oddly slow, when there was k people on and now with the average player count being maybe 5k, high points being maybe near 10k and low points being 3k, it can take 20 minutes or so to get a match which is way to long for a game that still has a decent player count online.
I even tried some big team, thinking that Invasion sadly died off but it’s the same issue. Getting into firefight is even problematic and that only needs 3 more people. Iv’e played games with far worse player counts, ranging under 1k that still were able to find matches somewhat faster and more frequent then this which has nearly 10k still on during prime time periods. Halo: The Master Chief Collection – Matchmaking Fixes and Other Issues
Cross-play means that players across Xbox consoles and Windows PC will be able to play together.
I know this has been said ad -nauseum but the matchmaking system in Halo 4 is a huge joke for casual players such as myself. Now, to be fair, I am a medical student and my career doesn’t often allow me to game as much as I used to. In fact I only was able to start playing Halo 4 a couple of weeks ago. Also, since I usually play solo it’s impossible for me to ever compete with a team of players in full communication against me. I apologize for my rant but with that being said, is there no way for someone like myself to ever find matches that are competitive, or am I doomed to play with people who have no lives outside of their Xbox s and simply cannot lose?
If the answer to that question is no, then it’s really unfortunate that has put together such a terrible system for multiplayer where you either start at launch with the rest of the pack or your left in the dust with no hopes of ever catching up. I’ve seriously had way more aggravation from this game than fun and I’m ready to throw the disc in the trash and never purchase another Halo game again. If you’re unhappy with not being good enough, get better.
You get better with practice. If you aren’t going to practice or put the time in, then you’re not going to be as competitive as someone who does. You cannot maintain the same level of skill you once might have had without PLAYING and if you aren’t going to play as much, then you might have to accept the results you have at the moment. The game does try to match you against similar opponents.

Our data shows that the CU improved things statistically, but we are aware that far too many are not seeing improvements. We continue to work on these issues, with our primary focus being on matchmaking performance. Additionally, we also noticed that the CU inadvertently introduced some new UI bugs, which will be fixed shortly.
For now, you will continue to see uneven match-ups and larger than normal team sizes in matchmaking. This is a temporary situation that is caused by the fact that we are allowing more players than normal into a matchmaking session in order to improve overall matching times. We realize this is not ideal, and we will reset those parameters to their expected behavior as soon as our matchmaking improves to a level where players are consistently getting into matches in shorter time frames.
This issue, along with others, will be addressed in the coming content updates. Originally scheduled to come out yesterday, the patch will release this evening ET.
